"THE ORIGINAL WILDLIFE WARRIOR."

"THE ORIGINAL WILDLIFE WARRIOR."

I have recently begun this blog to enhance the importance of our natural environment that we should all protect. The wonderful biodiversity in our world is vital for our lives on Earth. We must reach to the point of realizing that without our share, our little help in a brotherhood of mankind to protect our common home which is our world, we´ll only destroy ourselves being predators and become just nothing but dust in the Universe. I was going through my journals the other day when I found an article that I wrote at the time the original wildlife warrior passed away.
I won´t be able to keep on going talking about environment, if I don´t include a TRIBUTE TO STEVE IRWIN, THE ORIGINAL WILDLIFE WARRIOR. Here is the article that I´ve shared...
"The Original Wildlife Warrior." A Tribute to Steve Irwin.
October 4th, 2006. It has been one month, since Steve Irwin parted from this world. His wife, Terri and his two children, Bindy and Robert, and the whole world are still mourning.
We all miss him so much!! So, I would like to offer some words, as a Tribute to his memory.
Australia Zoo and Wildlife Warriors Worldwide are today in mourning for a beloved friend and respected leader. The global response to the loss of Steve Irwin, and the public outpouring of empathy we have received has been overwhelming, and a significant comfort to those of us who knew him. This is not just a LOSS for us, but FOR A PLANET, full of people who loved him so well, and for the world´s precious WILDLIFE that, he laid his life on the line to protect.
Irwin believed in promoting ENVIRONMENTALISM, by sharing his excitement about the NATURAL WORLD, rather than preaching to people. He was concerned with CONSERVATION of ENDANGERED ANIMALS, and land clearing leading to LOSS OF HABITAT. He considered Conservation to be the most important part of his work: "I consider myself a Wild-Life-Warrior. My mission is to Save the World´s Endangered Species." Irwin bought "large tracts of land" in Australia, Vanuatu, Fiji and the United States, which he described as "like National Parks", and stressed the importance of people realizing that, they could each make a difference. He founded the Steve Irwin Conservation Foundation, which was later renamed "WILDLIFE WARRIORS WORLDWIDE", and became an Independent Charity.
Steve Irwin was a true original; he brought energy and passion to everything he did. Whether it was performing groundbreaking crocodile research on board of his vessel "Croc One", filming Wildlife Documentaries, or simply celebrating his children´s birthdays, Steve didn´t do anything by half. A hard-core Wildlife Warrior and dedicated family man, Steve did for Conservation and Education, what no one had ever done before. He brought Wildlife Conservation right into people´s living-rooms, and created a whole New Generation of Wildlife Warriors.
The exceptional life Steve led is a TESTAMENT to his respect for all creatures great and small, and his passion for Wildlife was matched only, by his passion for family life. We here at Australia Zoo, offer our heartfelt thanks on behalf of the Irwin´s Family for your Condolences and kind words. Many people have expressed a desire to Donate to Wildlife Warriors Worldwide, in Memory of Steve Irwin. All Donations will be greatly appreciated, and applied directly to Saving Animals in the Wild.
Steve´s Legacy will live on in the continuation of his life´s work.

"PRIODONTES MAXIMUS."

"PRIODONTES MAXIMUS."
In the Red List of Threatened Species.

The Giant Armadillo (Priodontes Maximus), colloquially Tatou, Ocarro, Tatu Canasta or Tatu Carreta, is the largest living species of armadillo. It was once found widely throughout the tropical forests of eastern South America and now ranges throughout varied habitat as far south as northern Argentina. This species is considered vulnerable to extinction. It is believed that it has been on Earth since prehistoric times.
These armadillos typically weigh around 28 kilograms or 62 pounds when fully grown, but a 32 kilograms or 71 pounds specimen has been weighed in the wild. A typical length is 89 cm or 35 inches, of which a third to two-fifths is likely to be accounted for by the tail.
The Giant Armadillo prefers termites and some ants as prey, and often consumes the entire population of a termite mound. It has been known to also prey upon larger creatures, sometimes consuming small mammals such as mice and rats.
The Giant Armadillo was classified as Endangered on the World Conservation Union Red List in 2002, and is listed under Appendix 1 (threatened with extinction) of the Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna.
At least one Zoo Park in Villavicencio, Colombia -called Los Ocarros- is dedicated to this animal.

"MICROCHIROPTERA."

"MICROCHIROPTERA."

Not long ago, one of my cats caught a bat inside our apartment. It was of a microchiroptera type of bats. I heard the bat crying. Then, I got closer to it and softly placed a small towel on top of it and called my fellowman. He had to free the poor creature out the window. I guess, it was rather lost. We don´t kill animals, not even bats... We are animal lovers and advocates. We care for animals in need of help. We are conservationist of our nature.

The natural environment creates its own biodiversity, and where they dwell and reproduce themselves. Mother Nature is Wise!!

My fellowman and I live in a big city life surrounded by tall buildings and towers.

We have realized that there is a nest of bats in the tower of our building, just like in many other buildings in the city where we live. Bats find protection and dwelling facilities in the windows or trees or in any narrow space where they could hide during the daylight.

In fact, they come out at night to hunt only insects. Bats hibernate when things are going bad for them, although they live a long life.

I must admit that it is rather scaring for me to see them flying all over the apartment at night time. My dear cats are always on the alert and ready to catch them.

I recall now that one day, I was alone in the apartment at night writing in my PC in the computer room when I saw a microchiroptera flying on top of my head. I screamed. I closed the door...

My cats then, were ready to hunt. Next morning, I did not see it again.

Starry Dawn.

"Bats, the Real Stars of the Night."

"Bats, the Real Stars of the Night."

The biodiversity in our natural environment is enormous. Bats are the chiroptera species.
Bats are amazing animals, and an important part of our natural environment.
There are 17 species of bat in the U.K., all of which are protected by law because their numbers have decreased so dramatically. There are also hundreds species of bats in the world, small (microchiroptera) and big ones (megachiroptera).
The Bat Conservation Trust (BCT) is working towards a world where bats and people live in harmony, to ensure they are around for future generations to enjoy.
Your support will make a big difference to what we are able to achieve.
If you are interested in reading more about these fascinating animals, you may explore the rest of the following website and find out more about them...

"DESMODUS ROTUNDUS or VAMPIRE BAT."

"DESMODUS ROTUNDUS or VAMPIRE BAT."

Chiroptera (Zool.) is an ancient order of mammalia dating to the early Eocene, including the bats.

There are nocturnal mouselike mammals having four toes of each of the anterior limbs elongated and connected by a web, so that they form membranous wings that can be used in flying. They also have anatomical adaptations, including large ears, for echolocation by which they navigate and in some cases find insects.

The order includes the suborders Megachiroptera (the fruit bats) and Microchiroptera (insectivorous bats). They are many kind of bats, small and big ones.

"DESMODUS ROTUNDUS or VAMPIRE BAT" is the only kind of small bat or microchiroptera that feeds itself with blood of big mammals.

"CHIROPTERA."

"CHIROPTERA OR CHEIROPTEROUS OR BATS."
THE BIODIVERSITY IN OUR NATURAL ENVIRONMENT IS ENORMOUS.
BATS ARE THE CHIROPTERA SPECIES.
THEY COULD BE MICROCHIROPTERA WHICH ARE SMALL BATS.
THEY ARE USUALLY INSECTIVOROUS BATS, EXCEPT THE "DESMODUS ROTUNDUS or VAMPIRE BAT" WHICH IS THE ONLY KIND OF SMALL BAT THAT FEEDS ITSELF WITH BLOOD OF BIG MAMMALS.
THE MEGACHIROPTERA ARE SPECIES WITH LARGE SIZE.
THEY ARE FRUIT BATS.
I´LL SOON EXPAND THIS SUBJECT IN OTHER POSTS FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT BATS.
