In Tampa, Florida, deputy faces animal cruelty charges, after investigators say four miniature horses in her care were malnourished and emaciated.
She is accused of depriving food for two miniature horses. One horse died of starvation.
She was suspended without pay and subsequently resigned after she was arrested last Monday.
A criminal investigation revealed that she deprived food and nourishment to the four miniature horses between July 2011 and July 2012 while in her custody and care.
Two horses lost a high percentage of body weight, and one of the miniature horses died of starvation.
The second horse is expected to recover...
The owner of the miniature horses is charged with one count of felony animal cruelty, and one count of misdemeanor animal cruelty.
Investigators say they were contacted by the RVR Horse Rescue. The staff there contacted the sheriff's office because of the condition of the animals.

That is terrible, it sickines me the way people treat there animals (family). I wish i could save them all.

I have my own horses and a mini horse as well, that I show and I would never treat my family that way. I have a quarter horse, a race horse off the track, and a little mini horse mare. I love horses. who would treat helpless animals that way. animals that are domesticated, relied on that woman to take care of them. I would never do that and hope nobody else will either.
